Tunis/Tunisia — « A single shot of the COVID-19 vaccine is enough for asymptomatic individuals who have already been infected, » Microbiology Professor and member of the Scientific Committee to Combat Coranavirus Amine Slim said Tuesday.
« The infection develops antibodies and the vaccine dose reinforces their presence and acts as a booster, » he explained in a statement to TAP, pointing out however the need to do the serological test to detect the presence of antibodies, considering that studies have revealed that the immunity acquired following the COVID-19 infection varies between 6 and 8 months.
Some labs recommend a 2nd shot after 6 months and a 4th one after one year, the official indicated.
Besides, the expert specified that the vaccine manufacturers worldwide are currently working on the development of vaccines for new variants such as the South African, which has not yet been detected in Tunisia.
333,000 people have been administered the vaccine since the launch of the national vaccination drive till April 26.
69,811 have received their second shot, according to the latest data released Tuesday by the Health Ministry.
Overall, 1.352,357 have registered on the evax.tn platform.
